In the Gospel today, Jesus’ mother said to him;

“Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” Luke 2:48

When Jesus was twelve years old, Mary did something that surprises many people. She questioned God! But this is not the voice of rebellion, it is the voice of love in pain.

Mary is without sin, and yet she speaks to God with a question on her lips.

It Is Not Sinful to Ask God ‘Why?’

There is a false spirituality that imagines holiness means never questioning God, never expressing confusion, never bringing sorrow into prayer. But Mary shows us something truer. She does not pretend that she understands what is happening. She does not silence her heart. She brings her bewilderment directly to Jesus.

Real prayer is not polite silence. It is honest relationship.

God is not offended by our questions.
He is offended by our refusal to speak to Him at all.
