If you saw a man trying to mow his lawn with a toaster, drive a kettle, or write with a banana you would not unreasonably consider him to be unhinged from reality. Yet when people parade the streets, drawing attention to the fact that they pump sperm into other men’s anuses, grind vaginas together, are both male and female, or neither male nor female, large crowds assemble gormlessley clapping and cheering.

If we don’t believe that we have been created then there is little point talking about ‘purpose’. We, and the whole world we inhabit, are nothing but a bunch of atoms which magically appeared, will exist for a while and then disappear. There is no story, nothing to see here. We just keep busy, seeking pleasure and avoiding pain during the meaningless few decades that our atoms are bobbing about the place.

Though I disagree with them, I have to admire honest atheists who acknowledge that there is no such thing as right or wrong - child molestation, slavery, rape, genocide - it’s all a battle of wills. These atheists have some integrity. But these are a rare breed.
