As ever, Mr Gavin, an exellent article. I particularly like your paragraph on freedom - what it is and what it is not. Freedom in the sense intended by the Lord Jesus is in fact not freedom as defined by humanity at all, but freedom from sin (John 8: 34). As you say, the effects of this freedom, which leads on to living as God intends, are in fact a curtailing of freedom in the human sense. A godly life requires commitment to its principal purpose, one's vocation, and thus necessarily excludes other choices in life.

I love that you show how living in accordance with God's will deepens ones contact with the eternal while apparently limiting ones opportunities in life (maximising these being frequently lauded as "having it all", an indicator of success).

I can only hope that Pope Leo is one of your subscribers and reading you currently.

So sorry, Mark Lambert, my advanced age and the time of day have been at work! Wrong attribution on my part. Mea culpa

So far, none of this seems to have been on the Holy Father's agenda. It's very sad.
